AARW’s Story Project

About AARW’s Story Project

AARW’s Story Project was launched in December 2017. The project aims to document and archive the histories and experiences of Asian American communities through our own lens, whether it be about immigration, displacement, home, family, and more.

Through the act of storytelling that connects personal experiences to larger social issues impacting our communities, we envision the story project as a platform to build community, hold space for processing, and create opportunities to organize and mobilize.

This project is a collaboration with Greater Boston Legal Services’ Asian Outreach Unit (GBLS - AOU).

Submission Guidelines

These are recommended guidelines to follow, but not mandatory. If you are feeling inspired and want to go over, please do so with your heart’s content! You are also welcome to submit more than once.

WRITTEN submissions are recommended to be between 600-700 words, roughly 1-2 pages in length.

PHOTOGRAPH submissions can be a single picture or a mini-album consisting of 4-5 photos. A short caption is required that describes the context along with the year, dimensions and the medium.

VIDEO submissions must be 5-8 minutes.

AUDIO submissions must be 5-8 minutes.

ARTWORK submissions can be a single piece or a mini-collection consisting of a max of 4-5 pieces. A short two-sentence caption is required that describes the context along with the year, dimensions and the medium.

INTERVIEW submissions are compiled pieces in a summary style. Interviews will be loosely-styled, conversational, and conducted with a member of AARW’s Story Project team.

Share Your Story with Us

Submit your writing, art, photography, videos, podcasts, recordings, interviews, oral histories, zines, or any other medium to our story project! The Story Project team wants this to be a platform where Asian American communities’ narratives and voices can be shared, centered and amplified.

Use these guiding prompts/questions to help you get started with sharing your story.

Our third round of submissions is focused on the theme of immigration/migration!

Whether by choice or forced displacement, we know that our people’s narratives and experiences are deeply informed by migration. We are focusing on immigration and migration in this round of submissions because they are connected to AARW’s organizing on deportation and immigration status.

Submissions are due April 30th, 2021 at 11:59pm! Submit your story here: https://bit.ly/submission_aarwstoryproject
