2025 represents the 50th year anniversary of the end of the American War in Southeast Asia. As part of our work to demand justice and accountability for Southeast Asian communities by the irreparable harms and violence caused by the US, we are holding a local community screening of Taking Root, as part of a national tour in 2025.
Join AARW for a special screening of Taking Root, a powerful documentary that delves into the stories of grassroots change and community resilience. Taking Root amplifies the stories of Southeast Asians who resettled in Philadelphia after the American War in Vietnam. It highlights the intergenerational impact of structural violence and demonstrates the power of Southeast Asians in resisting and rebuilding in America.
The film will be shown on Saturday, March 29 at 4:00 pm at the Emerson Paramount Theater, and at 5:00 pm there will be a panel discussion with community leaders. We invite you to join us for this FREE screening in partnership with BAAFF, the Boston Asian American Film Festival! You can register at: https://artsemerson.org/events/taking-root/
For March, our Member Meeting will be a private space to debrief the Taking Root film from 6:00-7:00pm. We will also check in on the 1:1s you did over the previous month. This promises to be a powerful evening, so we hope you’ll join us!
